In 1977 the company was recapitalized. Jon Campbell, who had joined the company in early 1963, was named President with Charles Campbell assuming the title of Chairman of the Board. After his father’s tragic death in a boating accident, Jon Campbell became sole director of the company in July of 1981. Under Jon’s guidance, the company has evolved into one of the largest truck equipment firms in the Southwest, recognized for its high quality workmanship and customer service.
WTE serves a multitude of customers ranging from dealer’s, OEM’s, municipalities, fleets and end users. During the course of its existence, the company has represented the top of the line truck equipment manufacturers in the nation (i.e. Reading, Stellar Cranes, Crane Bodies & Hooklifts, Tommy Gate etc.) and has consistently ranked among their top performing distributors in both sales volume and customer service.
In the main, the company’s business is the installation of manufacturer’s equipment on cab-chassis and associated equipment on pickup trucks (i.e. tool boxes, ladder racks, bed liners, lift gates, etc.). However, the company also has significant manufacturing capabilities and routinely produces complex custom units for various clients on large cab-chassis. In short, the company can satisfy the most demanding requirements and specifications related to equipment installation.
WTE has a wide customer base, although the primary focus has been to serve both large and small truck dealers in the Phoenix and the surrounding area. Over the years, geographical coverage has been expanded to include southern Nevada and a portion of New Mexico, due to the importance of the mining industry and the demand for high quality equipment. Occasionally customized equipment is delivered as far away as Hawaii, Utah and Texas.
Some of WTE’s larger and more noteworthy customers include:
Cox Communications, Sunstate Equipment, Circle K, Salt River Project, Tonto National Forest and Freeport McMoran
